    Life is Beautiful
by Sixx AM (formerly of Motley Crue and sober!)
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJDDxHIaaVk

You can't quit until you try
You can't live until you die
You can't learn to tell the truth
    Until you learn to lie

You can't breathe until you choke
You gotta laugh when you're the joke
There's nothing like a funeral to make you feel alive

    Just open your eyes
    Just open your eyes
And see that life is beautiful.
Will you swear on your life,
That no one will cry at my funeral?

To me a song about change...
    Peter Murphy
    Cuts you up
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpz2AWu4PZg#t=46

I find you in the morning
    After dreams of distant signs
    You pour yourself over me
Like the sun through the blinds

    You lift me up
    And get me out
    Keep me walking
    But never shout

    Hold the secret close
    I hear you say

    You know the way
    It throws about
    It takes you in
    And spits you out

    It spits you out
    When you desire
    To conquer it
    To feel you're higher

    To follow it
    You must be clean
    With mistakes
    That you do mean

    Move the heart
    Switch the pace
Look for what seems out of place

    On and on it goes
    Calling like a distant wind
Through the zero hour we'll walk
Cut the thick and break the thin
No sound to break no moment clear
When all the doubts are crystal clear
Crashing hard into the secret wind

    You know the way
    It twists and turns
    Changing color
    Spinning yarns

    You know the way
    It leaves you dry
    It cuts you up
    It takes you high

    You know the way
    It's painted gold
    Is it honey
    Is it gold

    You know the way
    It throws about
    It takes you in
    And spits you out

    You know the way
    It throws about
    It takes you in
    And spits you out

    It spits you out
    When you desire
    To conquer it
    To feel you're higher

    To follow it
    You must be clean
    With mistakes
    That you do mean

    Move the heart
    Switch the pace
    Look for what
    Seems out of place

    It's o.k.
    It goes this way
    The line is thin
    It twists away

    Cuts you up
    It throws about
    Keep me walking
    But never shout.

I heard Wasted on the radio and that made me think of this thread. It was the first song I posted. Here it is.

    Carrie Underwood, "Wasted" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7GCFx...eature=related

Another glass of whisky but it still don't kill the pain
So he stumbles to the sink and pours it down the drain
He says it's time to be a man and stop living for yesterday
    Gotta face it.

Cause' I don't wanna' spend my life jaded
Waiting to wake up one day and find
That I've let all these years go by
    Wasted

Oh I don't wanna' keep on wishing, missing
The still of the morning, the color of the night
I ain't spending no more time
    Wasted

    Starting Over by Macklemore http://youtu.be/wADy9PmKwsc

    1, 2, nah.
Those 3 plus years, I was so proud of
And I threw Ďem all away for 2 Styrofoam cups
The irony, everyone will think that he lied to me
Made my sobriety so public, thereís no fuckiní privacy
If I donít talk about it then I carry a date
08-10-08, but now itís been changed
and every wanna put me in some box as a saint that I never was,
itís the false prophet that never came
And will they think that everything that I've written has all been fake
Or will I just take my slip to the grave?
Uh, what the fuck are my parents gonna say?
The success story that got his life together and changed
And you know what pain looks like
When you tell your dad you relapsed then look him directly into his face
The seat on your shoulderís the seemingly heavy weight
Haven't seen tears like this on my girl
In a while the trust that I once builtís been betrayed
But Iíd rather live telling the truth and be judged for my mistakes
Than falsely held up, given props, loved and praised
I guess I gotta get this on the page

Feeling sick and helpless, lost the compass where self is
I know what I gotta do and I canít help it
One day at a time is what they tell us
Now I gotta find a way to tell them
    God help Ďem
Yeah, one day at a time is what they tell us
Now I gotta find a way to tell them

    We fall so hard
Now we gotta get back what we lost... lost...
    I thought youíd go
But you were with me all along... along...

And every kid that came up to me
And said I was the music they listened to when they first got clean
Now look at me, a couple days sober
    Iím fighting demons
Back of that meeting on the east side
Shaking tweakin', hope that they donít see it
Hope that no one is looking
That no one recognizes that failure under that hoodie
Was posted in the back with my hands crossed shooken
If they call on me Iím passing, if they talk to me Iím booking out that door
But before I can make it somebody stops me and says, "Are you Macklemore?
Maybe this isnít the place or time.
I just wanted to say that if it wasnít for Otherside I wouldnít have made it."
I just look down at the ground and say, "Thank you."
She tells me she has 9 months and that sheís so grateful
Tears in her eyes, looking like sheís gonna cry, fuck!
I barely got 48 hours, treated like Iím some wise monk
I wanna tell her I relapsed but I canít
I just shake her hand and tell her congrats
Get back to my car and I think Iím tripping, yeah
'Cause God wrote "Otherside", that pen was in my hand
Iím just a flawed man, man I fucked up up
Like so many others I just never thought I would
I never thought I would, didnít pick up the book
Doiní it by myself, didnít turn out that good

If I can be an example of getting sober
Then I can be an example of starting over
If I can be an example of getting sober
Then I can be an example of starting over

    We fall so hard
Now we gotta get back what we lost... lost...
    I thought you'd go
But you were with me all along... along...

    We fall so hard
Now we gotta get back what we lost... lost...

i often wake up with a song singing in my head. Last night it was a popular song that had booze in it which I had a hard time getting rid of. I finally managed to replace it with Pink's Try, Try, Try (refrain "Gotta get up and try, and try, and try", never quit quitting, y'all). (see earlier post on this from me.)

It made me think about this thread and to post here. I really like Terry's post too. I had found it earlier, from Macklemore who got sober and was very open and public about it. He was sober for 3 years, relapsed without telling anyone and had a young fan come up to him to say how Macklemore's sobriety had moved him to get sober. Needless to say M was ashamed, wrote this, got sober again. At least in 2014 he was still sober.

Thanks Janet - love Lynyrd Skynyrd!!
    Heard this today ....

    Chris Stapleton “Was it 26”

Living hard was easy when I was young and bullet proof
I had no change to bind me, just a guitar and a roof
Emptied every bottle, when I poured I never missed
I had bloodshot eyes at 25, or was it 26?

It didn't seem to matter what price I had to pay
'Cause anything worth having I'd just lose anyway
Friends worried about me and they asked if I was sick
Thought I would die at 25, or was it 26?

Those two years run together like whiskey over ice
Melting into memories like somebody else's life
I'm glad to say I've come around but if I could have one wish
I'd like another try at 25, or was it 26?

I met a girl from Georgia, smart and pretty college grad
I thought my luck was changing up till then it'd all been bad
Guess I fell in love with her, all it took was just one kiss
But she said goodbye at 25, or was it 26?

Those two years run together like whiskey over ice
Melting into memories like somebody else's life
I'm glad to say I've come around but if I could have one wish
I'd like another try at 25, or was it 26?

Yeah, I've been down the road before almost as far as hell
Deception or redemption I guess only time will tell
I have faith in the knowledge that God gave us a gift
    I couldn't hide at 25, or was it 26?

Those two years run together like whiskey over ice
Melting into memories like somebody else's life
I'm glad to say I've come around but if I could have one wish
I'd like another try at 25, or was it 26?

    Lyrics
I'm gonna need someone to help me
    I'm gonna need somebodies hand
I'm gonna need someone to hold me down
I'm gonna need someone to care
I'm gonna writhe and shake my body
I'll start pulling out my hair
I'm going to cover myself with the ashes of you and nobody's gonna give a damn

    Son of a bitch
    Give me a drink
    One more night
    This can't be me
    Son of a bitch
    If I can't get clean
I'm gonna drink my life away

Now for seventeen years I've been throwing them back
    Seventeen more will bury me
Can somebody please just tie me down
Or somebody give me a goddamn drink

    Son of a bitch
    Give me a drink
    One more night
    This can't be me
    Son of a bitch
    If I can't get clean
I'm gonna drink my life away

    My heart is breakin'
    hands are shakin'
bugs are crawlin' all over me
    My heart is breakin'
    hands are shakin'
bugs are crawlin' all over me
    My heart is breakin'
    hands are shakin'
bugs are crawlin' all over me

    Son of a bitch
    Give me a drink
    Son of a bitch
    This can't be me
    Son of a bitch
    If I can't get clean
I'm gonna drink my life away

That's a great song, Beth! I never knew who it was or what it was called. Thank you!

    Erin!
    So glad to see you!
My kids hate when I turn it up and start singing along Ha! They think it's a song from the sixties

Hope all is well and your other half is staying the course. How's your little one? I bet she's getting big!

    Hey Erin and Beth

This is the song I used to listen to when I first stopped drinking successfully - when I was having a bad day i would listen to it and it reminded me of this place and people here and it gave me strength....

I walked across an empty land
I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me complete
Oh simple thing, where have you gone?
I'm getting tired and I need something to rely on
So tell me when you're gonna let me in
I'm getting tired and I need somewhere to begin

I came across a fallen tree
I felt the branches of it looking at me
Is this the place we used to love?
Is this the place that I've been dreaming of?
Oh simple thing, where have you gone?
I'm getting old and I need something to rely on
So tell me when you're gonna let me in
I'm getting tired and I need somewhere to begin
And if you have a minute, why don't we go
Talk about it somewhere only we know?
This could be the end of everything
So why don't we go somewhere only we know?
    Somewhere only we know
Oh simple thing, where have you gone?
I'm getting old and I need someone to rely on
So tell me when you're gonna let me in
I'm getting tired and I need somewhere to begin
And if you have a minute, why don't we go
Talk about it somewhere only we know?
This could be the end of everything
So why don't we go? So why don't we go?
Oh, this could be the end of everything
So why don't we go somewhere only we know?
    Somewhere only we know
    Somewhere only we know

lilly Allen: somewhere only we know (yeah, I know it's Keane really, but it was lily I listened to and that reminds me of here )
